Growth Aspirations
Five-year studio goals and how we’ll grow with intention.
Five-year studio goals and how we’ll grow with intention.
My Five-Year Business Goals
Until now, our priority has been to sustain what we love doing—crafting design that creates value. Through reflection and planning, we’ve recognized that to maintain quality and momentum, we must grow responsibly at roughly 20% year-over-year. That growth requires a clear destination and the operational track to reach it.
Over the next 2–3 years, we’ll lay that track:
- Culture: Codify a values-driven, design-first environment that empowers both craft and clarity.
- Process: Tighten how we attract clients, scope value, deliver outcomes, measure performance, and reinvest learnings.
- Focus: Allocate time to internal R&D and signature services that compound value—especially the Builtwell Value Sprint.
Our differentiator is how we pair strategy with craft to create measurable outcomes. We’ll invest in the creative environment that enables that standard—calm operations, high-trust collaboration, and rigorous attention to results.
Each year, we’ll continue to carve time for exploration—dedicated sprints to experiment with new technologies, refine our frameworks, and publish thought leadership. To do that sustainably, we’ll mature our internal infrastructure and delivery systems.
Team Roadmap
- Year 1–2: Pilot interns/associates and selected contract partners to flex capacity for sprints and launches.
- Year 3: First full-time hire beyond the founding team (design/strategy). This will test our recruiting, onboarding, benefits, and knowledge-sharing processes.
- Year 5: A stable core team of 6–8 people operating with predictable cadence and multiple revenue streams (signature sprints, retainers, and selective ventures).
Community and Platform
Our community efforts—content, events, and tools—will serve dual purposes: advancing our Design Creates Value thesis and generating awareness for Builtwell. We’ll host workshops, publish playbooks, and grow a mentorship network aligned with creative accessibility and practical craft.
Aspirational Brand
Builtwell will be recognized as a strategic design partner that turns vision into business outcomes. People will come for the work and stay for the culture—typically 3–4 years—supported by transparent crediting, shared ownership of outcomes, and continuous growth opportunities.
We’ll remain on the edge of design and technology, applying the best of both without compromise. Our promise: design that performs.
Aspirational Revenue
Targeting a path to $1M ARR by Year 5 through a mix of:
- Value Sprints: 12–16 annually
- Retainers: 4–6 strategic accounts
- Select productized offers and licensing
Current vs. Aspirational Profile
- Employees: 3–4 core → 6–8 core
- Locations: 1 → 1 (distributed, digital-first)
- Reach: Regional → International
Personal Definition of Growth
- Flexible: A sustainable pace, spacious enough for family, health, and deep work, with planned cycles of rest and exploration.
- Creative: Challenging engagements with clear impact—work we are proud to ship and measure.
- Positive: A net-positive force for clients, team, and community; intentional about accessibility and opportunity.
Valuation Perspective
Our near-term value concentrates in team, client outcomes, and a defendable offering (e.g., the Builtwell Value Sprint). If approached for acquisition, it would likely be strategic, centered on our methodology and team fit. Any discussion would prioritize:
- Competitive compensation aligned with market impact
- Thoughtful earn-out terms based on outcomes, not just time
- Strong benefits and flexibility that support life and craft
